  4.                           Buy a New Car in Europe
  5.           
  6.                The next time you're ready to buy a new car, look
  7.           to the showrooms in Europe.  In Europe, you can choose
  8.           from many makes and models (with optional U.S.
  9.           environmental and safety standards, if you want to sell
  10.           the car in the United States).  These cars are exactly
  11.           the same as those you'd see at showrooms in your
  12.           country.  But they cost less, and European sales tax
  13.           (which can run as high as 35%) is not added to cars
  14.           bought by foreigners. 
  15.                All things considered, you can save enough
  16.           purchasing your new car in Europe to pay for your
  17.           trip -- and have money left over.  By purchasing the
  18.           car in Europe, you save more than enough to enjoy a
  19.           week or two tooling Europe's country roads in your new
  20.           automobile.  And if you do use your new Mercedes as
  21.           transportation during your European vacation, you'll
  22.           also save the cost of renting a car. 
  23.                Almost any European car dealership in your country
  24.           can handle the transaction for you.  When you plan your
  25.           trip, try to arrange to pick up the car and to leave it
  26.           for delivery to your country in cities specified by the
  27.           dealer.  Volvos, for example, will be shipped free to
  28.           the United States if you drop the car off in either
  29.           London or Antwerp. 
  30.                If you intend to resell the car in the United
  31.           States, Be sure to specify that your car be equipped to
  32.           conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and
  33.           to U.S. or California emissions regulations.  If you
  34.           get a car that does not meet these standards,
  35.           modification costs will wipe out any savings you reap.
  36.                Rest assured that any new car bought in Europe
  37.           comes with the same manufacturer's warranty as a car
  38.           bought in your country.  We're not talking "grey
  39.           market" deals here, we're talking about tourist
  40.           purchase arranged by the car's manufacturer and
  41.           authorized dealers.
